What is metacentre ?

Metacentre is defined as the point about which a body in a liquid starts oscillating when the body is tilted by a small angle.

It's also defined as the point at which the line of action of the force of buoyancy will meet the normal axis of the body when the body is given a small angular displacement.

G - centre of gravity
B - centre of buoyancy

Centre of buoyancy is shifted after tilting it.
Force of buoyancy acts vertical. It meets normal axis at M.
M is the Metacentre.

Meta-centric height:-

The distance between metacentre and centre of gravity of the body is called meta-centric height.
In above figure, MG is the meta-centric height.
